Kenneth Jordan Burkey
Kenneth treats art as a vessel for cultural exploration and historical storytelling. His research-heavy process draws from literature and archives to reinterpret fragments of history. He is currently developing a body of work centered on the legacy of Jazz, using layered imagery and text to capture the energy of the movements that birthed the music.
Betsy Gill
Betsy is an abstract painter and creator of hand-bound art who recently relocated to Sacramento from Colorado in search of new creative adventures. Her practice focuses on the intersection of fluid abstract expression and the meticulous craft of handmade books. She is eager to explore the local art scene and grow her practice within the supportive environment of The Atelier.
Jaime Luna
Jaime is a Sacramento-based painter whose work exists as a conversation between traditional representation and bold abstraction. Influenced by the Figurative movement, his process involves an intuitive cycle of building up and scraping down the canvas with brushes and palette knives until the subject carries his intended sentiment. He joins The Atelier to engage with a creative community and share his progress in making sincere, introspective art.
Liz Awesome
Liz is a conceptual artist whose practice, “a love letter to the future,” is rooted in the “here and now” of Sacramento. Using digital pentimento, charcoal, and stained textiles, she connects materials like post-consumer trash and found objects to community needs. Her work explores themes of resistance, disability, and queer solar punk Judaica.
Izayjah Mckinney
Izayjah is an emerging visual artist whose work centers on the Afrocentric experience, cultural memory, and personal resilience. Through portraiture and expressive mark-making, he explores the dualities of human nature—light and dark, strength and vulnerability—to bridge personal reflection with broader surreal narratives. He joins The Atelier to use his studio as a sanctuary for storytelling and transformative healing.
