Shades of Summer exhibition August 1 - 25, 2026

Seven Artists explore the nuance, vibrant color, and textures of the summer season in a compelling new group show.

The Atelier is proud to present Shades of Summer, a captivating visual arts exhibition showcasing works created by artists working out of Sacramento’s newest studio hub, the Atelier. 

This month, we welcome our visiting residents, Celia Herrera Rodriguez, Artist, and Crisán Herrera, Photographer, to join us for our Summer exhibition, bringing new creative expressions to Sacramento.

Celia Herrera Rodríguez (Xicana/O’dami) is a painter, performance and installation artist whose work reflects a full generation of dialogue with Chicano, Native American, Pre-Columbian, and Mexican thought. We are thrilled to have her at the Atelier this summer as she prepares for her museum retrospective.

Along with our resident artists, Liz Awesome, Betsy Gill, Kenneth Jordan, Jaime Luna, and Izayjah McKinney, they bring together diverse mediums, from expressive oil painting and mixed media to delicate textile art, this exhibition invites viewers to experience summer not merely as a calendar season, but as an evocative spectrum of emotion, intensity, and atmosphere.

Summer in Sacramento has its own distinct rhythm and palette, Shades of Summer captures these fleeting moments through uniquely refined artistic perspectives. All seven featured artists maintain active studio practices at the Atelier in Sacramento, fostering a collaborative and inspiring dialogue that naturally translates onto the gallery walls.
